  • There have been more than 330 certified renewable installations in the Cotswold district in the first three months of 2025
  • This is an average of 110 per month, which is more than double the 2024 rate
  • As demand continues to rise, consumers need support in choosing the right systems for their home

The latest data from MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) shows homeowners in the Cotswold district are warming to the potential of renewable energy technologies to heat and power their homes.

There were more than 330 MCS certified installations of renewable technologies, like solar panels and heat pumps, in the Cotswold region in the first quarter of 2025. This is more than half of the total for the whole of 2024 (which was 602) and equates to an average of 110 per month.

Solar is leading the way, with 83% of installations in Cotswold this year being solar panels. Heat pumps and battery storage make up the rest, as the region surpasses 10% of households that have a certified renewable installation*.

One of the companies delivering these installations is Cotswold Energy Group. Jon Bonnar, CEO at Cotswold Energy Group said: “It’s fantastic to see such a significant uptake in renewables in the region – we’re delivering excellent value for money with solutions like solar, batteries and heat pumps. When coupled with smart tariffs and the shift towards electric vehicles, payback on low carbon investment is faster than ever before.”

Ian Rippin, CEO at MCS, said: “The Cotswold region is a beautiful part of the world, with a real mix of housing stock – from heritage cottages through to more modern buildings. It’s great to see that there is a growing appetite for renewable energy in the area, with MCS certified installers helping to give everyone confidence by delivering installations to industry-recognised standards.”

As demand for renewable energy grows, it’s important that consumers are supported in choosing the right systems for their home. Created by Energy Saving Trust and MCS, Go Renewable is an initiative that is designed to offer consumers in the Cotswold district and surrounding areas that service.

Inga Jirgensone, Business Market and Development Director at Energy Saving Trust, said: “Finding the right renewable energy solution for your home can be a complicated journey, which is why it’s crucial that consumers have access to impartial advice and support to help them navigate the options and choose the most suitable renewable technologies. Go Renewable streamlines this process, allowing residents to complete every step, from accessing a free online home assessment, to booking an independent home survey and reaching out to accredited installers for quotes, all in one place.”
