To achieve MCS certification, a product must meet certain criteria for quality.
The MCS product standards, developed by our technical working groups, outline the performance test methods and the criteria that a certified product must meet.
This outlines requirements for a manufacturer to ensure that their production environment and processes meet MCS requirements. This includes ensuring that the manufacturer has the staff, processes and systems in place to ensure the product is consistently manufactured to high standards and that every item off the production line has been made to the same rigorous standards.
Manufacturers must have staff, processes and systems in place to ensure the products delivered meet the relevant requirements. Maintaining certification for a product is based on periodic audits of the product manufacturer’s factory production control, and further product testing where required.
This is the acceptance criteria for Certification Bodies to apply to the product testing evidence that a manufacturer provides. Manufacturers should take responsibility for ensuring their testing evidence complies with this.
Certification is based on three main areas:
An assessment of evidence that demonstrates the product complies with the requirements of the relevant MCS Product Standard.
A review of technical documentation relating to the product.
An assessment of the evidence that demonstrates the manufacturer’s factory production control procedures comply with the relevant Standard.
The MCS product standards are written and maintained through the MCS Technical Working Groups, to make sure they are relevant, rigorous, technically accurate and implemented in response to changes in market conditions and technological advancements.
