The MCS Installations Database

The MCS Installations Database (MID) holds the details of every MCS certified, small-scale renewable energy installation in the UK since 2008. We hold information on both MCS certified installers (defined as installation companies) and MCS certified installations.

Installation data is taken from the installation certificates raised by MCS certified installers for each specific system that they have delivered.

The MCS Data Dashboard

We have created a free-to-use data insights tool, ‘The MCS Data Dashboard’. This tool is designed to provide near-real-time updates on MID data, to track the adoption of small-scale renewable installations in the UK.

Given the UK’s legally binding net-zero targets, the MCS Data Dashboard puts small-scale renewable insights in your hands. It is an engaging way to monitor the current uptake of small-scale renewables, highlight current or past trends and identify opportunities for sector growth.

The link to access the MCS Data Dashboard is provided below, and it is free to create an account.

Data beyond the dashboard

As a public-facing tool, the MCS Data Dashboard cannot present all of the data that is captured within the MID. In some circumstances, we can make arrangements to grant access to raw data from the MID to support projects geared towards Net Zero goals.

Please be aware that, as a form of best practice and GDPR compliance, we are obliged to limit the data sharing as much as possible to still be able to fulfil the purposes of the projects in question. As such, we would appreciate that you only request data that is absolutely necessary for the project.

Any data provided that exists beyond The MCS Data Dashboard may incur a charge.

Requesting the data you need

If you do require data beyond that which is presented within The MCS Data Dashboard, please fill out and submit the below contact form that will direct you to our data enquiries team.

Notes

MCS is a voluntary certification scheme in the sector, so MCS does not capture all small-scale renewable energy installations in the UK, and thus MCS data only encompasses MCS certified installations.

The scope of technologies covered by MCS is up to 50kW for electrical technologies, such as solar PV, and up to 45kW for heat technologies, such as heat pumps (up to 70kW for multiple products installed in a single system). Additional technologies include battery storage, biomass, micro CHP, solar heating and small wind turbines.

The certificate will only hold the names of the MCS certified installers that have installed the system. Installer information is in a separate dataset, which includes company address details, certification dates, operating regions covered and technologies they are certified for.
